November
Since our last update, plenty has happened at BG. We have competed in both the ITA and USA IOM Nationals enjoying some good racing and fantastic hospitality along the way. Throw in a few IOM & RM UK Ranking races, the MYA Trade Show and Centenary Celebration day, the release of our own designed fittings range along with the ongoing coordination of our Britpop production and it feels like not so long ago that we last updated our site. Some recent highlights over this period include:
- 2nd place by 1 point to the IOM Italian Champion Piereluigi Puthod in Ravenna, Italy
- 1st place in the IOM USA Championships in Ft Lauderdale, Florida by more than 50 points defending last years title won in Texas
- Winning the MYA Chris Dicks Design Award for 2011 for our Britpop design, presented at the Centenary Celebration.
Our mast, boom and fitting kits have proven more popular than we thought upon release at the MYA Trade Show and we are working hard to get these online asap with updated stock levels on their way.
Britpop's have started to leave to workshop of Robot Yachts, along with near completion of tooling at Vinaixa Yachts Spain and the imminent, yet delayed arrival of moulds in Brazil for Denis Astbury meaning that albeit a little later than hoped, things are moving ahead on production. All skippers who have placed orders/expressions of interest with us have now been contacted to confirm their order with their builder of choice before November 25. If you did not receive this mail, please contact us. Further information can be found on our new Britpop page.
Some of you may have noticed, like we have, the number of "look-alike" designs starting to appear around the world. We are honest enough to realise that this will always happen when a design dominates in the way the BritPOP has since its first launch. We simply ask that if a designer chooses to closely imitate or copy our hard work, that they have the manners or ethics to credit us for it. To pass off our work as your own thoughts publicly and run off the back of our success without any recognition to us for your own gain, financial or not, is just not right.
As has now become the standard, our IOM sails still prove to be at the front end in competitions worldwide, recently winning the Canadian, Norwegian and North American IOM Championships. Congratulations also to Chris Stokes and Owen Jarvis for a convincing BG sails 1-2 in the recent NSW 10 Rater Championships against opposition from across Australia. Also a mention to Scott Condie who finished 4th first time in the water with his new Steve Sedgeman design.
Our 2012 price list will come into effect from December 1st

Congratulations to the new owner of my Britpop #1 Denis Rogers of San Diego USA for winning his first event entered with my old boat at the Region 6 US Ranking race in July. Denis has been a great supporter of our sails since 2006 and has finally updated from his well used Ericca design that he sailed when we first met at the 2005 US Nationals, gaining near instant success. Well done!
Also congratulations to Frank Russell for winning the 3rd round of the NSW IOM GP in Australia. Frank beat the current Australian Championship Runner-up Paul Jones sailing a 2004 built BG Disco using 4 year old BG Sails. A fine effort Frank!
On a final note we are now working on a new Marblehead prototype design for completion in late 2011. As it has been widely rumored (yet not confirmed) that a World Championship is to take place in France late 2012, this should hopefully be kick start that this fantastic class needs to get moving again worldwide.

We have been kept busy since our Worlds success working through sail orders and numerous new projects.
One of the first things you may have noticed is a change to our website from the home page with the new inclusion of our Online Store. This new addition should make purchasing equipment we use and recommend on our own boats a much easier process. We will soon be expanding into supplying masts, boom kits and a larger range of our own and outsourced fittings to fully rig your IOM to our specifications.
As all sail orders are made to order, these will not be available through our Online Store. The ordering process for Sails will remain as normal with orders being taken and a prospected lead time being quoted at your time of order.
Work has been progressing on the Britpop with Robot Yachts production hull #1 having been launched at the start of August (See below). This boat has just recently led from start to finish to win the 3 Day UK Nationals by a 17 point margin in its first outing with conditions ranging from hard gusty A suit and B suit, to drifting on the final day.
The second set of moulds are close to being completed and shipped to Denis Astbury in Brazil (ex-sails etc). We are now also able to announce that Pepe Vinaixa/Vinaixa Yachts (V6-V7) in Spain will be soon be starting on his moulds for Britpop. With all final checks and testing nearly complete, it is expected that production will soon begin with our builders. Thank you for your patience.

BG Sails & Designs Champions of the World
Congratulations Peter Stollery for becoming the 9th IOM World Champion. Peter was a deserved winner after fighting the event out with myself with all coming down to the last race, in which GBR 39 came out on top. Whilst I have to be honest and mention my own disappointment at once again coming up short after leading the event early in the week, I will always look back at West Kirby 2011 as one of the most enjoyable experiences in radio sailing that I have had. To race boat on boat against Peter over so many races without incident is what this sport should be all about and the title has gone to a most worthy and deserving champion. Cheers Pete!
The biggest smile for the event must have gone to Graham Elliott sailing the 3rd Britpop who kept up his good form for the full week giving BG a clean sweep of the podium for hull design, build and sails. This achievement has yet to fully sink in as after not the most pleasant of years to date, our hard work and knowledge has been rewarded at the highest level.
Thank you Graham and Peter for being the only two skippers who believed in the Britpop project from the first time you set eyes on it, then achieving near instant success. It has been a pleasure to work with 2 great skippers. To our families and friends both in the UK and abroad, the members of the MYA, KBRYC, Birkenhead MY & PC, Martin, Rob, Tony, James, Dave C, thank you all so much for your help and support thus far in 2011. We can now look forward to getting back to normal.
We are now able to announce that James and Tony Edwards of Robot Yachts are the UK licensed builders of Britpop!. The first hull shell has now been taken from the moulds and we will very soon be looking to sail boats 1 & 2 against Victoria's GBR 39 to ensure all is correct. Tooling and jigging of internal components is taking place so as to ensure all boats are at the standard expected of our design. We are still handling all order inquiries at BG up until this is passed over to Robot Yachts in the near future, along with announcing our our 2 International licensed builders. We understand that so many of you through enquiries are eager to get your hands on your very own Britpop but ask that you also understand as with our sails, that any quality product worth having takes a little more time.

May
The last month has been a busy one at BG. We have managed to work sail orders back down to a 10-12 week lead time along with fitting in builds of Britpop prototype's 2 & 3 for launch at the April UK ranking event held at West Kirby. In the hands of both Peter Stollery and Graham Elliott they performed well at the event straight out of the box, providing us with vital feedback on the repeatability of the design. The soon to be produced production version has taken longer than expected due to some discrepancies between the actual line drawings and the hand shaped plug used for the original hull. The lines are now finished and ready for mould production with our UK builder to be announced once they are in a position to deal directly with orders. Until then skippers wishing to place an order/ or that have emailed an intention to order have been placed on a list that will be passed over to our builder when they are 100% ready to start production. Thank you for your patience on this.
On the fittings front, we continue to source items that we are using on our own boats for wider availability. Our new addition to this month are Bowsies. Please check our rigging page for more information on these and all items we supply. Congratulations to Scott Condie for winning the South Australian IOM Championship once again using his own very fast BTL design and BG Sails.
Finally, be sure the check the upcoming action from the 2011 IOM World Championships held at West Kirby, UK in late May of which we are proud to be an event sponsor.

March
After a regrettably slow start to 2011 we are now back up to full speed with the production on all sail orders. Our Britpop lines and prototype plug is now in the hands of its UK builder for full tooling and machining work to be done with production to follow as soon as ready. The prototype hull is still performing well with a 1st and 2nd at the recent UK Ranking race at Woodspring, Portishead in what could best be described as light to drifting conditions.

Victoria and Brad have now departed Sydney, Australia to head back to a cooler Britain after just under 6 weeks of sun, catching up with friends and family and a bit of sailing also in the Australian Radio Yacht Championships. Competing in 3 classes RA, RM and IOM, BG managed a clean sweep of all 3 classes sailed, whilst Owen Jarvis and Chris Stokes managed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 10 Rater Class showing a very near total domination of BG Sails over all 4 classes. Conditions over the 2 week event saw a full range of wind directions and strength from middle A rig conditions in the RA's to top end C rigs used in the IOM's where our Britpop design followed on from where she left off at last years USA Nationals in Texas. Britpop finished with a score of 20 points from 20 races sailed winning 14 races in total. BG's old Starkers3 was borrowed for the RM Championship, whilst the Sweet 9 used in the UK throughout 2010 was shipped to Sydney for the event with both carrying BG Sails to convincing wins.
