2010
October
The month of October has indeed been a busy one at BG. With every race sailed our BritPOP IOM prototype continues to improve with event wins at each outing since Pierrelatte. The weekend of 20/24 saw BG visit Lake Ray Hubbard, Garland, Texas for the US IOM Nationals. A great venue, great sponsors, friendly skippers and a fantastic Race Team led by Chuck LeMahieu and Eric Rossenbaum made this a memorable event. Racing was in open waves with A and B Rigs used at both top and lower ends of their range giving a good mix of conditions. We had 3 fleets with 19 races over 3 days which was good going after losing half of Saturday to wild storms and a Tornado less than 50 mile away. BritPOP managed 15 wins, 3 x 2nds and 1 x 3rd to take the event with a score of 17 points in the end showing that she is no average design beating a mixed fleet of Lintels, Topicos and Pikantos amongst others.
Our intention is to have BritPOP moulded internationally to best satisfy the significant interest in the design, so if you are a professional and committed boatbuilder or modelmaker with sound experience and keen eye for detail we would like to hear from you. We are currently working through our options with prospective builders and would look to have agreements to mould under license in place and boats underway by early 2011.
Brad and Victoria will once again be at this years MYA AGM/Trade Show on the 27th of November with a full supply of our products on show and available along with our BritPOP IOM design being on display.
With our upcoming trip to Australia for Christmas and the ARYA 2011 Nationals we would ask any customers wishing to order products over this period to contact us early so that we can best suit your requirements.

August/September
BritPOP has arrived!
The past 2 months has seen our new IOM prototype make her first appearance after an exhausting amount of design, build and testing. On her first outing in early September after initial club trials she recorded victories on day 1 and 2 of the Eastbourne UK Ranking Race. We can now report that after a grueling week of hard racing at the IOM European Championships in Pierrelatte, France, BritPOP finished the week in 2nd place with 6 A Fleet heat wins and a seeding race win to add to her total. Unfortunately some poor high risk sailing was our downfall earlier in the week and came back to bite her in the end and proved too much to catch the well sailed CRO 89 of Marko Matic.
We now look forward to taking BritPOP to the US Nationals in Garland, Texas (Oct '10) and the Australian Nationalsin Sydney (Jan '11) and working through options of putting our new design in the marketplace.
BG Sails scored more A heat wins than any other single manufacturer and were used on 5 of the top 10 placed boats once again showing our product quality and performance against a World class field.

Juny/July
Over the past 2 months things have quietened down somewhat since the IOM Nationals, letting us concentrate our focus on sail orders, IOM design and some further new items to be included in our Rigging range. We have added our new version of a slimline M3 Rigging Screw and soon will be making available IOM Goosenecks, Spreader Kits and Hales Micro ball raced pulley blocks. These are all items we use on our own boats. We have recently completed a new IOM prototype and have another 'new toy' arrived from Australia that we hope to take a closer look at when time permits. Plenty happening! The coming months see plenty of sailing coming up with the UK RA Championship late August, European IOM Championships in Pierrelatte, France late September, US IOM Nationals in Texas October and both Victoria and myself traveling for the Australian National Championships Jan 2011. We would ask that any customers check with us to confirm dispatch dates on any new orders placed before or over these periods.

May
New sail lead times have been slightly reduced over May but we would ask that you check with us for lead times if you are planning on having your new sails for a specific event. After quite a lot of tweaking our new lines plan is now available. "SKA" has evolved from our "Reggae" design of early 09 after many hours of trial and refinement. With a more balanced rocker profile and careful re-distribution of buoyancy, we feel that "SKA" will show improved downwind performance over her predecessor. Our rigging page has been updated listing tried and tested products that we have used for many years.
On the racing side the good news continues for our sails with Olivier Cohen having taken out the French IOM National Championship using his BG A suit to get off to a commanding lead after days 1 and 2. Zvonko Jelacic came from behind to claim the Croatian National Championship with a wide range of conditions over two days. To continue the trend BG Sails placed 1st, 3rd and 4th in the UK IOM National Championships held at next years World Championship venue, West Kirby. After trailing the well sailed heavy weather specialist Lintels of Tushingham, Priestly and Walsh for 2 days, World Champion Zvonko Jelacic CRO came from 5th place with a last day score turnaround of 21 points over 3 races in light conditions to claim the title proving once again that consistency over a full event is what wins trophies.
That now makes 4 IOM National Championships wins so far in 2010 for BG Sails!

March/April
It's been business as usual at BG over the past couple of months with a steady flow of sail orders going out the door. With summer approaching, our new release of 2010 BG Polo Shirts and Caps have now arrived and are available from our new clothing page. After a winter of development with 'SKA' (modified reggae) we will soon be looking to offer what we have learnt in the form of a new IOM lines plan, along with developing a new prototype for anticipated UK production. A new rigging page will also be online during May where we aim to make available various items used on our own boats that are not easily sourced.
Finally as the weather warms up here in the NW, ranking seasons are now under way both in the UK and across Europe with BG sails performing strongly, whilst back in AUS results have been very pleasing. Most notable was Scott Condie's performance in the first round of the NSW IOM GP series. After day 1 sailed in A and B rig conditions Scott was on 8 points after 7 races with Paul Jones back on 16 points in 2nd. Day 2 saw Paul claw his way back and take the event from Scott on a count back, with Jeff Byerley back in 3rd. Scott was sailing his own new design "BTL" in its first major outing against quality opposition and we will be following further results with keen interest.

January/February
Happy New Year from BG Sails & Design!
Over the past two months the weather in the North West of the UK has seen our Birkenhead Lake frozen over for the most of January, and quite cold for the Club Winter Series IOM racing. I was quite lucky to be able to build my Reggae IOM molded hull and deck that was sent back in October from Australia. After some modifications the boat has now been on the water for 3 race days and is performing well. The new name given to this boat is 'Ska', being a derivative of the Reggae style of music. Should this design continue to show improvements, a new lines plan may be offered soon. Pictures in Gallery.
The Australian Nationals for the four International Classes were held over January with no surprises in the four individual class winners. Once again the skippers who have put in the most effort with their boats both on and off the water shone through. Congratulations all!
With the new season in the Northern hemisphere about to get underway, we look forward to continued results of skippers using our equipment.
Lead times for sails are still extended and we would ask that any skippers looking to purchase for a certain event contact us to avoid last minute disappointment.
